He dwells in a world of eternal night -- but the blackness is filled with sounds and scents, tastes and textures most men cannot perceive. Although attorney Matt Murdock is blind, his other four senses function with superhuman sharpness. He stalks the streets at night, a relentless avenger of justice: Daredevil, the Man Without Fear! His fingers can feel the faint impressions of ink on a printed page, allowing him to read by touch. The rest of his skin is equally sensitive, enabling him to perceive minute changes in the temperature and pressure of the surrounding atmosphere. Daredevil can identify individuals by smell alone, no matter how they might try to camouflage their natural odor. He can hear a person's heartbeat at a distance of 20 feet, tell whether someone is lying by listening to changes in the heart's rhythm and identify people by the specific patterns of their heartbeats. Also, Daredevil developed the ability to sense the proximity and arrangement of objects as a result of the mutagenic effects of his exposure to the same radiation that heightened his senses.

The Darkness is the ancient evil force that is the opposite of the Witchblade power, and is now wielded for the first time in the cause of good. Jackie Estacado is a hitman for the mob who has inherited this awesome power, and the dangers that go with it. He now must deal with the fact that he contains a power, which at night, allows him to create almost anything he can imagine. One of the most intriguing aspects of this new power, is the fact that Jackie cannot have sex with any human females, for taking the chance of impregnated them. You see, if Jackie bears a son, The Darkness power is passed on to his seed, and he dies almost instantly ! This will be tough for him, since he is so adept at attracting the opposite sex. Jackie must also contend with the forces that wish to control and destroy The Darkness. The Brotherhood of Evil is a group that wishes to exploit his power, and use it to mold reality in their own image. Meanwhile a group known as Angelis, is bent on destroying Jackie, and ending The Darkness' reign of power.

Written by the hottest scribe in comics, Garth Ennis, and penciled by Marc Silvestri, the Darkness tells the story of Jackie Estacado, a gangster with an odd problem-he's immortal. And that's the least of his difficulties.

To understand the story, you must first understand the characters that tell it. Bruce Wayne, multi-billionaire, has invested his money in an unending quest to conquer crime entering the stage as the legend-embraced Batman. Jackie Estacado is an orphan, but lately adopted by his "uncle" into the family. The family of organized crime that is! Jackie is quickly hired as the family hitman, especially since the rise of the Darkness - which is his birthright! The story begans with the murders of several well-known and resourceful crime bosses in the Gotham City area. Batman and Jim Gordon are left baffled, not only because the murderer is unindentified,but also because the murders seem to be physically impossible. Jackie Estacado and his Uncle Frankie arrive on the scene, both attempting to move in and "organize" crime (an idea that is soon discouraged), making Gotham City an organized crime syndicate. The story itself seems to be more of a pyschological discussion of the darkness and the similarities between Batman and the Darkness. Batman is seen as a legendary character to Jackie, leaving him uneasy in simply killing him. Batman acts as a father figure, attempting to mentor Jackie and encourage him to fight the Darkness, knowing that the power is possessed by the man, not the other way around. Jackie doesn't take it well, but ends up doing "good". He shows up at the police station with Jenny with plans on turning in his uncle Frankie. Outside of the events regarding Jackie and Batman, we see the interactions of Uncle Frankie and some of the more known villains of the Gotham City. These include Two Face/Harvey Dent, Killer Croc, Catwoman, and even a two-page spread of the Joker. Needless to say, Frank Franchetti really hates Gotham City. In the end, though beaten to a bloody pulp, Batman proves that the power of his own heart and mind are enough to persuade the Darkness from violence.

Marvel Teamup #79: Spider-Man with Red Sonja (and Mary Jane)
The story begins as Spider-Man is swinging down fifth avenue by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in late December. He is late for a meeting with Robbie Robertson ad at that same moment, a guard inside the Museum notices something strange with one it's artifacts. The moon seems to be concentrating it's rays on an amulet and the guard begins to hear voices in his head not heard for over 9,000 years. The guard then reaches for the amulet cutting his hand on the glass. Spider-Man is still swinging down the street until he reaches the offices of the Daily Bugle where he changes into Peter Parker. It's the Bugle Christmas Party and everyone is there including J. Jonah Jameson and Joe Robertson. Mary Jane Watson also is there as she gives Peter a little kiss under the mistletoe.
Just as things seem very well, reports come in that there is some trouble at the Museum and Peter and Charley Snow are the only non-drinkers on staff, so they get to cover it. They leave with Mary Jane tagging along, and as they approach the museum they notice a large crowd in front amazed that the Museum seems to be engulfed in what appears to be a giant red flame. Peter senses evil and soon separates himself from the crowd and enters the Museum as Spider-Man. Mary Jane is curious as to where Peter went to so she too enters the Museum. Inside the Museum, Spider-Man is attacked by some "slime-thing" that looks like an octopus. As he frees himself of it, a swarm of "clawed chittering things" come after him. As Spider-Man is overwhelmed by the number of creatures attacking him, Mary Jane appears on the scene. Near by her is a ancient sword that begins to glow and voices begin to call her towards it. She begins to pick up the sword, and as she does, the silver light that was shining off the sword begins to cover her until she ceases to exist. In her place, comes Red Sonja, She-Devil of the Hyrkanian Steppes! Whatever that means!
Now that MJ has transformed into Red Sonja, she helps out Spider-Man by attacking the many creatures that has engulfed him. Spider-Man does not recognize who this woman is, but initially thought it was MJ because of the flaming red hair. Yes, he is right, but he does not know that! Next, a voice cries out to Red: "We two meet again" and Red Sonja recognizes that it is Kulan Gath, a supreme sorcerer. As Kulan Gath begins to attack Red, Spider-Man returns the favor of her saving him and gets her out of harms way, but Red mistakenly thinks that he is one of Gath's demons and they both fall to the ground very hard. When they next awake, they find themselves being lowered into a fiery pit while clamped to a couple of X-shaped stakes. Kulan Gath, High Priest of the N'Garai, walks out to them and explains that he desires to have the Elder gods be re-born and become the rightful rulers of mankind. The fiery pit below them is a mystic gateway to N'Garai and their lives will open it. How wonderful huh?
The last time Red Sonja and Kulan Gath met, she cut out his heart, but Gath transferred his soul into the amulet where he waited for time on end. That time came tonight as Gath reached out and snared a host body in the Museum guard. As for Spider-Man, he freaks out as some green gloppy matter reaches him making him weak. He breaks free from his stake and begins to bring down the house so to speak, but not before freeing Red. A showdown occurs next between Kulan Gath and the Spidey/ Red team. Gath blasts some spells towards them but Spider-Man easily evades them all until he reaches Gath pushing him through a window. As the three characters reach outside, Kulan Gath and Red Sonja are both amazed at the world in which they are in with all the city's bright lights and tall skyscrapers. Spider-Man then lands a punch into Gath that sends him almost into the next avenue, then takes the amulet from Gath and returning the guard to normal. Its shock after shock for Spider-Man as he next sees Red Sonja slowly turning back to Mary Jane Watson fainting into his arms.
Later on, while Peter is on a ship to Staten Island, he thinks to himself that it's a good thing that Mary Jane has filed what little she remembers of that nights incidents as a "crazy dream". As for the amulet? Peter throws it over board into the bottom of the Bay.

Superman vs. Aliens begins with Clark Kent and Lois Lane voguing like fashion models en route to a mysterious assignment at LexCorp. (So great is the Daily Planet's clout, apparently, that two of its top reporters are summoned while all other media outlets in Metropolis are snubbed.) There is an alien vessel on a crash course for Earth and -- while to jaded comic-book readers it might seem like a minor thing, what with alien heroes and villains all over the place already -- the scientists are very excited by the chance to snag some alien tech. But Kent senses a Kryptonian connection and sabotages the expedition, switches garb and intercepts the ship in his familiar blues and reds. Soon, he's on his way into space in a borrowed shuttle (let's ignore the fact that he's already traveled the galaxy on his own steam in the past -- in this case, the shuttle plays a role in the plot) to confirm his belief that there are other survivors of Krypton out there.
Of course, as the title suggests, the floating rock of a colony is infested with aliens, and Superman -- attempting a rescue -- sends several host bodies back to the LexCorp satellite. (See, I told you he needed that shuttle for a reason!) Lois, as feisty as the infamous alien-fighter Ripley, has sense enough to kill the newborn aliens despite efforts by the mandatory mad scientist, who wants to harness their powers for weapons research. Meanwhile, Superman is far from the sun and nearly drained of power, but refuses to use lethal force because of his upright moral code. Sadly, that means he's repeatedly pummeled into a mess and must be saved now and again by the colony's last survivor, a 16-year-old blonde named Kara.

In 1992, DC Comics made national headlines when it announced its intention to kill Superman. The year-long storyline spanned over three dozen comic books in more than half a dozen titles, including all four monthly Superman titles (ACTION COMICS, SUPERMAN, THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN and SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL). It left the Superman mythos with two new villains (the Cyborg and Doomsday) and three new allies (Superboy, Steel and the Eradicator), all of whom had their own titles for a while. It began an era of Superman's publishing history which would last for the remainder of the decade, in which the titles were treated not as individual titles, each with its own identity, but as parts of one continuing storyline, a weekly Superman comic book with four or more creative teams rotating chapters. As a result, the 1990s Superman comics would be marked by long, convoluted storylines with protracted resolutions, a billowing supporting cast populated by two-dimensional characters who existed more as plot devices, and a sense of excess and disjointedness in almost all of the stories.
The story that began it all was collected in three volumes: THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN, a slugfest heavy on dynamic visuals and weak on plot; WORLD WITHOUT A SUPERMAN, the best of the three, which explored the ramifications of the death of Earth's greatest hero (and a part of the story later sagas would sorely miss); and THE RETURN OF SUPERMAN, in which four pretenders claiming to be Superman emerged, all to take part in a great battle when the real Superman returned.

An "Elseworlds" tale that has Superman rocketing to earth as a baby and arriving, not in 20th Century America, but medieval England, Kal is a nicely told "what if...?" style story.
It's a fairly traditional medieval set story, featuring the lowly peasant (Kal), his high-born lady-love (Loisse), and an evil lord (Baron Luthor), with the obligatory midsummer's fair of jousting and the like thrown in, all made slightly more individual by the fact that the peasant in question happens to have superpowers. The thing never even really becomes a "superhero" story in that Kal never actually dons a costume or adopts a secret identity. But Gibbons delivers a story, with a beginning, middle and end -- if not quite a novel, the plot could nonetheless be comfortably transferred to a movie and no one would think themselves shortchanged. The story's made up of little scenes that build on each other, forming a whole.

Sara Pezzini, born November 18, 1970 in Manhattan, New York. Her mother died when Sara was very young. Her father was murdered. When she was a child she wanted to be a cop, like Starsky and Hutch and maybe like her father who had been a cop too. And so she became one. A homicide detective at the NYPD. Her father was dead then already. Every policeman knew that following the rules left a lot of crime unsolved and a lot of criminals unpunished. Sara however wanted to really hit the crooks where it hurts and so she often followed her own rules and laws. Like when they killed her good friend Maria Buzanis and Sara intends to kill the murderer instead of turning him in. One of the most important bosses of organized crime and big business, Kenneth Irons, lives in New York too. He owns everything, including a mysterious ancient clove like weapon called Witchblade. Although he can't use the weapon he is obsessed by it and under it's influence. In order to find the person who can use it he organizes contests, hoping that one day the Witchblade finds it's owner and he, Kenneth Irons, can use the power of the weapon through that owner. By coincidence Sara Pezzini infiltrates in one of these contests and just when her partner blew their cover she comes near the Witchblade and the weapon reacts immediately. It recognizes it's owner and as soon as Sare has surrendered herself to it it revealed it's enormous power in getting itself and his wielder out of danger. From then on Sara and Witchblade live in symbioses. She tried at first to free herself but she can't. So she learns the ins and outs of her new companion. The weapon is concealed and invisible or almost invisible when inactive, but forms a deadly harness around Sara with incredible powers when alerted. Sara has to learn to cope with all these powers, which can be lethal for her too. She also finds out that evil is if far worse than she can imagine and that organized crime and criminals are the least outings of the evil she has to fight against.

Professor Xavier created a school designed to train young mutants in the use of their powers, eventually becoming the X-men, the first five members of his team were Alex Summers (Havok), Jean grey (Ariel), Hank McCoy (the Beast), Bobby Drake (Iceman), and Warren Worthington III (the Angle). He also had a sentient robot called Cerebro who helped train the first generation of X-Men. Some years later, when Professor Xavier became too ill to lead his team, he placed the X-Men in the hands of his rival, Magneto. This decision, to entrust the well-being of the team to the man who once led the Brotherhood of evil mutants, caused great dissension in their ranks. Several members left the group, forming a separate team whose mission was to uphold the ideals taught by Xavier. This team was, for a time known as X-Factor, and its leader was Havok. After Magneto's team of X-Men returned from the Shi'ar home world, they helped Havok to defeat the evil of, the Goblin Queen.

Body Baggers are a group of tough and bloody mercenaries hiring their services to anyone capable of paying for them. This fact makes competitivity between different groups more and more savage, as they try to kill each other in search of a job.
A team of two bounty-hunters, nicknamed Clownface and Pops, have recently been the target of a hit themselves. One of them was injured and, what's worse, his fiancee got killed during the attack. They want revenge for it but they also need their time to make money. Their financial situation isn't exactly impressing. In the middle of this frenzy (to make matters worse) the daughter of Clownface (named Panda Delgado) decides to go to live with daddy and comes knocking on their door after not having seen her father in 10 years. She turns out to have become a smart-mouth and a pain in the butt. AND the wants to join her father and become a bounty-hunter (or like they call it, "bodybagger") herself.

Books Of Magic TPB (The Complete First Series; 4-issue mini)
The original series that introduced us to Tim Hunter. Written by Neil Gaiman, each of the four issues had a different top-rate artist (John Bolton, Scott Hampton, Charles Vess, and Paul Johnson), with a different DC Universe magic character (the Phantom Stranger, John Constantine, Dr. Occult, and Mister E) teaching Tim something about magic. It was a fascinating exploration of how somebody could get started on the pathn towards becoming, well, a comic book character, and although it was a bit self-consciously "origin" at times, the magnificant art never lets you down.

Writer Jimmy Palmiotti and artist Mark Texeira serve up the one-shot Conan & The Daughters of Midora for readers who want to see the Frank Frazetta-style Conan swinging a broad axe. Meaning, those readers who like the old, grizzled Conan that's been hardened by years of head-chopping. The tired war horse whose bones may ache, but is not encumbered when it is time to mutilate. Who among us remembers the old black-and-white magazine Savage Sword of Conan? Those holding up their hands should approach the podium and re-tell those tales of old, because they serve as a reference for what's to come in Conan & The Daughters of Midora. Conan is not the young man we see in the ongoing series. He's a knock-down, hard-drinking, bare-knuckled, older barbarian. And the lines on his face are prominent. His charge is to rescue a king's favorite daughter who has been kidnapped by the king's sorcerer advisor. On his adventure, Conan is unfortunately accompanied by the king's other daughter, and she won't prove to be much help once the pair start to cross rough terrain and ultimately encounter the sorcerer's horde of zombie warriors. The cards aren't exactly stacked in Conan's favor.

Danger Girl: Kamikaze #1 and #2 of 2
While investigating a wire transaction to Hong Kong, the Danger Girl team discovers that the amount is enough to buy a stolen Russian nuclear warhead. Valerie, the team's computer expert, is sent to Kowloon in Hong Kong to get more information. While hacking into the car alarm system of notorious Russian black marketer Mikhail Strogonov, Val is interrupted--rather abruptly--by a beautiful agent who steals the car and leads Val (and a couple of Hong Kong police officers) on a wild ride. It ends in a shoot-'em-up (with Strogonov doing the shooting from a Russian Hind-D attack helicopter) and with Val getting a briefcase from Strogonov's car. Saved by Abbey, Val's upset that a) she was attacked by the mysterious agent and b) she lost her laptop.
The briefcase's contents are also mysterious. They contain film and documents showing Japan plotting to use a nuclear device during WWII…but Japan was not supposed to have had a nuclear weapons program. Also found is information about a missing German plane and the device it carried, a so-called "positronium" device. Once in a while, some kind of seed fall down on the planet and eat everything organic. The people adapted to this by making their homes in caves and have called in the help of the dragons of the planet. Each dragon is connected to one person.
But there is a small problem. The seeds haven't fallen for over 400 years and the inhabitants of the planet think of the "eating seed" as a myth. The dragons and their human partners, who used to protect The People, are now called parasites who don't want to work for a living. Less and less people want to sent food and other resources to the castles were the Dragonriders live. This is the beginning of a saga. Will the Dragonriders win the battles they have to fight on different fronts? To know the answer, you'll have to buy this limited series. To convince you to buy these comics, let me tell you this. After Marvels, every company had to publish painted comics, not all of them very good (some even terrible). Dragonflight is also painted, but is, in my opinion, at least as beautifully illustrated as Marvels. It's done in water-colours, which renders a stunning effect and looks very realistic.

Earth X (collecting #1-12) The future of the Marvel universe is a bleak one to say the least. In this future of the Marvel universe, normal humans no longer exist. Thanks to an unknown series of mutations, every person on the planet has some sort of super powers, which Reed Richards blames himself for. That's why he's locked himself up in Latveria and wears Dr. Doom's old armor. Then there's Captain America. Once the symbol for truth and justice, Cap is a shell of his former self, fighting an unwinnable battle. Peter Parker has succumbed to the being in his middle ages, while his distant daughter has donned the Venom symbiote. Scott "Cyclops" Summers finds himself training a new generation of X-Men, while all of the heroes that still care band together to wage battle against a new age Red Skull. Alex Ross, better known as the brilliant painter of Kingdom Come for DC as well as Marvels, is the mastermind behind all this; laying out the storyline while Jim Kreuger scripts things out. The main artwork of the TPB is done by John Paul Leon and Bill Reinhold, and while it's nowhere near as prolific as Ross himself, it's still great. Marvel fanboys will have a blast at all the details that Ross and co. have laced throughout Earth X, including the delicious new takes on Daredevil, the Hulk, Iron Man, Galactus, Thor, Dr. Strange, and the Inhumans, as well as the nods to the Eternals, the Celestials, and more.
Universe X TPB 1 (Universe X 0-7; Cap; Spidey; 4)
The Earth was saved, and the Celestial danger within the planet's core had been destroyed. Superhumanity had defied its creators and lived to tell the story. But for how long? Earth is on the brink of civil war, and the surviving heroes of the Marvel Universe are left to fight those they once swore to protect until they can find a cure for the mutated populace. Humanity has become a race unwilling to give up its new-found power, a power that has given way to a war that will elad to the end of all life, as prophesized in Earth X. It is upon this war-zone world that Captain America and Captain Mar-Vell begin a crusade to collect the world's greatest sources of power and weapons of mass destruction. But is this quest a means to merely portect humanity, or does it somehow serve a greater, darker purpose?

Destiny and hormones bring the four of them together, and it looks like they're going to get in some trouble. The story of four teenagers who spend a summer of love and romance, and then face consequences (teen pregnancy) they will never forget.

Uncle Sam(Steve Darnell and Alex Ross; 2-part mini): 1, 2
Darnell and Ross's main character is a tall, white-haired, goateed man, dressed in a tattered but still recognizable red, white, and blue outfit. Sam has lost his memory and perhaps his mind. Through the course of Uncle Sam, he wanders a modern American city, slipping into memories of other times and places--from the death of Black Hawk in 1832 Illinois to a Prisoner of War camp in Civil War Georgia to the Great Plains dust bowl of the 1930s. He mutters disjointed phrases ("It's a respectable Republican cloth coat"; "Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last?"; "This generation has a rendezvous with destiny"), sound-bites culled from the history of the United States. He falls deeper into madness, further into memory, rediscovering much of his (and our) lost history, recovering many suppressed memories. Alex Ross's richly detailed art brings a sense of clarity to even the wildest of the story's events and steadies even the most jarring juxtapositions of Darnell's text. Ross captures a character in every expression and evokes a sense of place in nearly every panel.
Even though its main character is a walking symbol, Uncle Sam is at its most effective when retrieving bits of lost history or considering the contemporary political scene. When Uncle Sam is confronted by several other national symbols, however, the comic loses steam. The advice that figures such as Britannia and the Russian Bear offer is less substantial and far less gripping than the historically grounded figures Sam meets.
In the end, he stands up to a doppelganger Uncle Sam, a slick, self-satisfied version of himself, and succeeds in reclaiming a sense of purpose as well as a sense of his past. But the real crux of the graphic novel comes somewhat earlier: Sam relives Shay's rebellion, remembering how he and other Massachusetts militiamen fired on a crowd of Revolutionary War veterans and farmers protesting high taxes and severe treatment of debtors. "This was the real shot heard round the world," he thinks. This 1786 episode isn't much remembered anymore, but Darnell and Ross's whole point is to look beyond the easy, familiar answers for more telling, if disconcerting, truths.

While being in the group, Pris felt attracted by Spartan, who is a droid, but somehow along their way, overcoming the obvious imposibility, Hadrian shared her feelings. She also shared a bond with Zealot, who was obsessed with training the girl in the Coda way. At first, Pris was not willing to take the training, but as she got possessed by a foul creature named the Rashka due to her lack of combat experience, it was her who asked Zealot for help. Naturally, that increased her combat abilities up to the sky -though of course she is still no match for Zealot-
The secret of Pris' powers was discovered as she got shot by chopper and she went into a coma. Void had to enter her head to get her back and there she understood the truth. Many centuries ago, the daemonites kidnapped a kherubim in an attempt of creating an hybrid, and thanks to their technology, they succeded. Unfortunately for them, the kid's mind was mostly kherubim, and escaped. For centuries, as the descendants of that first hybrid multiplied, the daemonite gens became recesive and their powers decreased to nothing ... until Pris was born. This dual nature of Pris showed up at the very same time of her rupture with Zealot, when the group was in Kera. Zealot had been seduced by power and cooled on her friends, even avoiding their company, and after some harsh words, Pris knocked her to the floor. It was plain easy for Zealot to defeat the girl, but as she was on her knees, she morphed to a daemonite in front of everybody's eyes. Pris was capable of returning to her usual shape but how daemonite she really is remains unknown. After the trip to Kera, and her discoveries about her true nature, Pris was no longer capable of staying with the team.
She left the C.A.T.S. to work at a cafe for a while, but eventually she decided to travel to New Orleans to apply for a job as exotic dancer. She was unwillingly involved on a voodoo cult that made her take more interests about the roots that her name implies.

"There's some bad mojo floating around this town, strange visions and apparitions haunt our heroine from the day she arrives. More troublesome are the exotic dancers that turn up dead every other day. No doubt Voodoo will find herself caught up in the mystery; with a name like hers there's not much of a choice."

Later, she went to visit Maul during a short trip and somehow they got involved. They've been living together for some months now. Maul keeps in secret that he's studying Pris' dual nature for unexplained reasons.

This graphic novel was followed by an all-new Almuric series under the name IRON HAND OF ALMURIC, published by Dark Horse. Roy Thomas calls the IRON HAND OF ALMURIC the sequel to the graphic novel story, even though the graphic novel was written, and originally published, ten years earlier.
Almuric was a character Robert E. Howard wrote as a tribute to the Edgar Rice Burroughs characters John Carter of Mars and Carson of Venus. The difference was that Almuric was less of a romantic and more like Conan.
